Similar to the arbitrary nature that we are "suppose" to eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner, why are some foods acceptable for breakfast while others are not? Jim Gaffigan once made the statement that muffins are nothing more than bald cupcakes! Our body doesn't metabolize foods differently depending on the time of day. It's not as though our body metabolizes last night's lasagna any differently than if I had it this morning for breakfast. Most breakfast foods (cereal, oatmeal, toast, english muffins, bagels, granola) don't "prime" the body for the day ahead; if anything due the sugar content and lack of protein it makes for a drowsy and dreary midday. The only reason I may stand behind eating certain foods at certain times of the day is merely to ensure that you are getting a variety of foods and nutrients. The idea that cereal is meant for breakfast or that chicken and a steak should solely be devoted to lunch or dinner is ludicrous. That's all for now!
